Stop Heartburn

 

To stop heartburn it first must be present. This article deals with the activities you should take to stop heartburn once it is already present. There are obviously things that can be done in the name of prevention though those are discussed in another area.


So, once it occurs, it is hard to stop hearburn. It is normal for heartburn to happen on occasion. However, if it happens every day, make sure you visit a physician as this could lead to serious complications.

So, what can you do to stop heartburn?

If it is a once in a while kind of discomfort, there is the choice to do nothing. It is more than likely that your esophagus and stomach are functioning normally and will resolve this problem. So, believe it or not, if you are healthy you can stop heartburn by doing nothing.

In the middle of doing nothing you can add a couple of simple things to help speed the process. Making sure you don’t lay down or participate in heavy activity immediately after dinner. If heartburn occurs during dinner, switch from the spicy wings you are inhaling to eating less spicy or greasy foods slowly. These can help stop heartburn.

There are some simple over the counter aids that help stop heartburn as well. Antacids reduce the amount of stomach acid available to create discomfort. Swallowing something with an active ingredient of Bismuth subsalicylate (think pepto bismol). This liquid is also an antacid but also an anti-inflammatory and antibiotic. It may not taste good but it works on a number of different levels to stop heartburn.

So, you can choose to wait it out, watch what you eat, or go the way to antacids to stop heartburn. Remember, if heartburn becomes a regular occurrence, talk to your doctor for more potent and reliable methods to treat and stop heartburn.
